BIOLOGICAL CORRIDOR KNOWN AS PATH OF THE MACAWS HAS BEEN CREATED IN PURISCAL |
The President of Costa Rica, Oscar Arias, and the Minister of Environment and Energy, Roberto Dobles, recently signed the Executive Decree to create the Biological Corridor known as Path of the Macaws in the town of Puriscal, being the first in the Central Valley. The purpose is to conserve species of flora and fauna, which are unique to Costa Rica and Central America. This conservation region unites the National Parks of Carara and La Cangreja (The Crab), protecting 55,385 hectares located among the towns of Puriscal and Turrubares of San José, Garabito of Puntarenas and Orotina of Alajuela. A biological corridor is a defined geographic area that unites landscapes, ecosystems and natural or modified habitats. It ensures the protection of biological diversity and the ecological and evolutive processes that allows the migration as well as the expansion of wild flora and fauna species. |
