GERMAN AIRLINE LTU TAKES OVER THE MAJORITY OF AIR MADRID’S ROUTES |
The German group LTU will take over the majority of Air Madrid’s transatlantic routes, the airline that suspended its operations last December 15th, abandoning thousands of passengers, most of them from Latin America, according to the Ministry of Development in Madrid. Moreover, LTU will immediately hire 568 employees from the Spanish company, Air Madrid, a number that is equivalent to 52 percent of its pay roll. As a result of the agreement, LTU airline committed to transport all those passengers who had a trip pending with Air Madrid until June, for an additional fee of 250 euros (approximately 330 dollars) per route. This will expand LTU routes, offering its services between Spain and six other countries that Air Madrid used to fly to: Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama and Peru. Brazil and Colombia are not included, due to legal problems, which could arise from the Spanish companies for giving up rights to a foreign airline. The creation of a new Spanish airline is foreseen in the near future. Allegedly, it would be named LTU Spain. The German company will Immediately request the corresponding operation permit, which will take between four and six months to process. |
